Citizens present their ideas: The basic premise of a charrette is that the best ideas and concepts come from the citizens. Each group selects a spokesperson, who makes a presentation to the rest of the citizens.

Now is the most important part of the charrette. It’s always the moment I look forward to, which is when I sit down and don't say anything else, none of my team members say anything else, and the citizens do the talking.

Professional team: Throughout the process, the members of the professional team listen to the public and city staff. Their role is to collect information and prepare a report that reflects the views of the public and includes practical recommendations.
Citizens record their ideas:
The charrette participants organize themselves into groups, discuss the issues that are important to them, and prepare one diagram that explains their views with graphics and text. The following pages display the diagrams prepared by the citizens during the charrette. Their comments are included in the minutes. They are provided without additional commentary from the professional team or city staff.
